As of October 1, 2018, a judge shall order the transfer of all firearms and suspension of concealed handgun permits of any person convicted of domestic abuse battery or other domestic related crimes. Firearms must be transferred within 48 hours of the order.
The defendent has the option to transfer firearms to a third party.
Both parties must fill out and sign a proof of transfer form. The form must also be signed by a notary and filed with the Clerk of Court of the parish or city in which the order was issued within 5 days of transferring firearms.
