Eligibility Requirements

You must have a high school diploma or equivalent, including homeschooling projects.

You must be at least 20 years of age and have a valid Louisiana driver's license.

You must pass a Civil Service Entrance Exam.

  • If a veteran, you must have been honorably discharged.
  • You must be of good character and free of criminal record. An in-depth background check will be conducted.

How to Apply

  • Individuals must apply for a Civil Service Entrance Exam. Print and fill out an application from the Louisiana Office of State Examiner website.
  • Bring a completed copy of the Employment Application and other applicable paperwork.

  • Applications will be reviewed by the civil service board for approval. Once approved, applicants are accepted for a thirty-day period prior to scheduled tests. Applicants will be informed by mail of the test date, time, and location. Applicants must make a passing score (75 or above) to be placed on an eligibility list. The list is good for 18 months. After that, the applicant will have to resubmit an application to test again.

After an Offer of Employment

You must complete a thorough background check, criminal history, pre-employment packet, and an interview.

You must submit to a physical agility test, polygraph, psychological evaluation, medical exam, and drug screen.

Applications for the Civil Service Examination are accepted for a thirty-day period prior to scheduled tests only.
